This is, in my opinion, the best apple pie in the world! I love the combination of apple crisp and apple pie in pie form. The crumble topping is so delicious and buttery and goes perfectly with the pie. The pie itself is baked in my homemade pie crust that is buttery and flakey. You can find the recipe here. The apples are cooked to perfection in a yummy cinnamon glaze. The apples aren’t mushy, but have some firmness to them. I used to hate apple pie because of the texture. I didn’t like mushy apples. Once I tasted an apple pie later in life that had a good texture it became one of my favorite desserts. I have had many, many different apple pie recipes. I enjoy almost all of them, but this one is my favorite. It is simple to make and is perfect for Thanksgiving or any dessert. Apple Pie is one of those desserts that can be served year-round. I hope you love this recipe as much as we do!
Preparation:
1. Make the Pie Crust. If you would like to use my homemade pie crust recipe, click here. You can also use an uncooked pie crust from the store.
2. Peel, core, and slice the apples. I like to use an apple peeler because it is so much quicker and easier, but you can do it by hand as well.
3. In a large frying pan, or another large pan, melt the Butter. Add the apple slices and sauté them for 7-10 minutes, or until the apples begin to wilt and release some of their juices. See the picture for an example.
4. Add the Cornstarch, Sugar, Cinnamon, and Nutmeg. Stir it until the juice starts to thicken. Remove from the heat.
5. Pour the apple pie filling into the unbaked pie shell.
6. Preheat the oven to 400°F.
7. Make the Crumble Topping. In a small mixing bowl combine the Brown Sugar, Flour, and the Cinnamon. Stir them together. Then add the Melted Butter and mix it until it is crumbly and mixed well.
8. Pour the Crumble Topping over the top of the pie and spread it out evenly.
9. Bake the Apple Pie for 20-25 minutes, or until the crust is lightly golden brown and the crumble topping is also lightly browned. Remove from the oven.
10. Serve either warm or cold. They are both delicious!
